Recipients

Each award recipient is a Park View High School Alum. The culmination of their hard work, perseverance, and spirit during their time inside and out of Park View resonated with us. With the help of our Sterling Park community and surroundings, we were collectively able to grant these students a scholarship so that they can materialize their passions.

Zaarin Zara
Northern Virginia Community College '26
Biology (Pre-Med)

About Zaarin

Zaarin Zara (PVHS ’24) is the 2024 winner of the PV19 Scholarship Fund. Throughout the application process and during her interview, it became clear that she was incredibly well-deserving of the scholarship, showing a level of maturity and a servant's heart that is rare for someone so early on in her life.

Life can change dramatically when we least expect it. For Zaarin, this meant a drastic change of environment as she moved to Sterling in 11th grade after spending her formative years in Bangladesh. Despite moving to a new country with a new language and new faces around her, Zaarin made sure to connect with her fellow students and her community. In doing so, she came to see the opportunities her new home provided her, including the chance to work at a local business, take plenty of time to study, and one day attend college. No matter the situation, Zaarin's character and resilience shines through.

Zaarin currently studies at Northern Virginia Community College in Sterling VA, and is on track to earn her Associates in Biology as a member of the Nighthawks Class of 2026. Best wishes to Zaarin in her journey!

About Itzel

Itzel Chona (PVHS ’23) is the inaugural winner of the PV19 Scholarship Fund. She is an excellent representation of the Park View community and displayed poise and passion throughout the application and interview processes.

No life comes without its challenges. From playing softball for Park View to taking part in girl scouts to working as a translator for a local elementary school, Itzel has made the most of her time and taken advantage of every opportunity given to her. This is made all the more impressive by the fact that she has had to leave her family behind, not once but twice, in order to find a better life for herself and those she cares about. Itzel’s resilience and drive has led her to face and overcome these challenges in her life and exceed the expectations the world has placed on her.

Itzel currently studies at Radford University in southwestern Virginia and is on track to earn her Bachelor’s in criminal justice as a member of the RU Class of 2027. Best wishes to Itzel in her journey!
